Ebony News Journal
"The Oldest & Largest Weekly Black Newspaper in East Texas"
Ebony News Journal History
The Ebony News Journal was established in January of 1993, and began as a monthly publication. It was founded because of the need of the larger African American population to become more informed about issues facing the community. For years Black leaders and business people expressed the desire for a common, consistent publication that could also serve as a networking tool for the African American consumer.

Expansion took place quickly in those first few years, with the paper going from a monthly to a bi-weekly and eventually becoming a weekly newspaper in September of 1998.
Primary Targeted Areas

Although editions of the Ebony News Journal may be seen all over the East Texas region, our current targeted areas are the metropolitan areas of Tyler and Longview. More than 53 churches in the Black community receive copies of the ENJ weekly and support the paper through their own advertisements and announcements on a consistent basis. High traffic areas carry the ENJ in our own racks, upon their counters and in space provided by retailers and businesses.

Major or Longtime ENJ Advertisers

Throughout its history, the Ebony News Journal has had the honor of serving many businesses, large and small. Some of our long term relationships have been built with The City of Tyler, The State of Texas, The Texas Lottery, Brookshire’s Grocery Company, Crown-KIA-Longview, Trinity-Mother Frances Health System, Southside Bank, The Northeast Texas Public Health District, Community Funeral Home, The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler, The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler Jr. College, Jarvis Christian College, East Texas Medical Center, Robinson-West & Gooden, (Attorneys at Law), Keith Miller, Attorney, Tyler Independent School District, TXU Electric, AT &T and Hollywood Homes of Tyler.
